For Memorial Day Weekend we decided to go down to Salt Lake, and basically just get away from Rexburg, and all of the miserable weather. Amber decided to fly home for the weekend to pick her car up so we took Kirk and Amber to the airport and Skyler and Kathryn drove us all down.
It was late Friday night by the time we left and a little crowded.
And it didnt take Chad very long to get comfortable... kind of.
Every man for himself, once they fall asleep :)
When we go down to SLC we usually stay with my grandparents, my aunt, and her kids. There is always a lot going on around their place but this time we were able to go down town to Temple Square. We went through a session and were even able to do some sealings while we were there too. The Salt Lake Temple is beautiful inside and out and we had a really great time.
There were a TON of weddings going on that day. My aunt was telling us they do between 50 - 60 weddings on an average Saturday. Chad felt the temple needed a gargoyle on the side of it so he volunteered his services for about five seconds.
In one of the visitor centers they a have a mini replica of the temple that shows what is on each of the floors. That is what Skyler and Kathryn are staring intently at.
Then of course no trip to SLC is complete without making a stop to our favorite ice cream place: Leatherby's.
My cousins Matt and Spencer decided to share this ginormous 1/2 gallon ice cream beauty.
Chad got a raspberry, chocolate, brownie sundae thing.
I got a sundae with peanut butter and chocoalte all over it... of course.
And this would be playdough ice cream. It actually tasted like the zebra gum that I'm sure everyone chewed when they were young.
Believe it or not Matt and Spencer actually ate the entire thing.
Two out of the three nights we stayed at my grandparents were spent shooting Nerf guns at each other. It never got old! Nerf darts were everywhere and it took us over a half hour to try and find most of them. They will be finding the darts all over their house for the next month and even when we got home Kathryn found one in her sweat pants.
The quality of the video isn't very great but it gives you an idea of how we spent our time.
On our way out of town we had to stop by In-N-Out.
After we arrived home Monday evening I decided it was the perfect time to try out our new dutch oven! I am slowly convincing Chad that camping is really a good thing and where else to start than with the food? We started with something easy to make ourselves feel good about never having cooked with one of these things before: a raspberry peach crisp.
The crisp turned out great, but not until after some time in the oven, under the broiler. It is going to take some practice and getting used to cooking this way.
We had a great weekend. It was really busy but worth it, and we're glad to be home.
Looks like you guys had a great time in utah!I've never heard of that ice cream place.. we will have to try it next time we go. And so glad you went to In-N-Out, I'm so happy they finally built one close!
